Hey Guys!
Happy Wednesday! (I just realized thats what I said last week too…woops!) So this week has been kind of chilly. And of course I’m the girl who forgets her winter coats at home. So I’m shivering in my fleece jacket. They turned the heat on yesterday though. It got so warm in my room that my roommate and I had to open a window. But then of course we got really cold…eh’ it happens. So my parents came up for family weekend, it was really nice to see them! We got to do all sorts of stuff like go see a stunt group and I got to show them around campus which was neat because theyd never really seen it before. One fo the things I love about Alfred is how you can go into town and youll see your professors, and a lot of classmates. You know everybody here! When we were in town we ran into two of my professors and I got to introduce my parents which was super cool. Hmm any more interesting stories…I went for a bike ride yesterday! It was really fun and beautiful. I only went for like 5 miles because it was getting dark and I didn’t want to get hit by a car but even five miles was a ton of fun. I was nervous because my bike needed some work done but I brought it to the bike hub and they fixed it up for free! It was really great and I also met some people that im going to start riding with! How fun is that?! Today ive got three classes, Economics, environmentalism and introduction to geographic information systems. I’m hoping that we don’t have a quiz in GIS but in case we do uim going to go study! Thanks for reading!

Gettin’ Chilly!
Wednesday, September 30th, 2009It is well with my soul
Monday, September 28th, 2009Did you know that 60% of youths who know Jesus turn away from God during their four years of college?
Alfred University has its own Christian Chapel services on campus; they are through Intervarsity Christian Fellowship every Sunday at 11am in Susan Howell Hall. This year, I am the President of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship(IV), but in the past I have been the comunications rep., bible study leader, and head of many service projects.
I know that choosing a college is difficult and when you get here it’s just plan busy, but when I came to college I was especially concerned about my spiritual life. So, I searched around a little. I tried out a few of the Christian fellowships on campus, but in the end I went to IV. What makes all of our christian organizations particularly special is that, in such a small community, we are able to develop a family with our friends at Alfred University, Alfred State, and in the Alfred community.
If you want to learn more about IV you can visit our website, which needs updating, (http://people.alfred.edu/~ivcf/IVCF_Intervarsity.html), our facebook (Alfred Intervarsity Christian Fellowship), or you can e-mail me at ajf1@alfred.edu
Other spiritual life content is located at: http://my.alfred.edu/index.cfm/fuseaction/student_affairs.spiritual_life.cfm
This is a link to a video I made for one of our chapel services: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFFNLCtcGu4
IV strives to be completely student run, but we do have voluenteers who help us throughout year. It is a great way to stay active and an easy way to make friends. I’ve always found discussion open and my experiences positive. There is openness to debate and a willingness to support every student spiritually. So think about attending, or think about where you’re at, just never stop asking questions : )
A late Saturday night–
Monday, September 28th, 2009So here I am, 1:34 in the evening, washing dishes and working on a blog post. I love being at school, but I mostly love living in the honors house. I would post pictures of the house, but I just realized I lost the cord to my camera (or rather, it is buried in one of my many bags)–so, pictures will come when I retrieve from whatever location it is currently located in.
Tonight was a fantastic night! I love the weekends at Alfred. It means time to get some work done, but mostly time to rest and rejuvinate. It is also the time for lots and lots of cooking, which is what I did some of today. While it might not seem a very complex or exciting thing to make (mostly because it isn’t), I made a nice pot of black bean soup tonight and shared it with two of my housemates and two guests. It was delicious! I picked up the beans from Kinfolk (a local co-op) and well, pretty much everything else I added into it (including some chipotle powder). Now, everyone seemed to like it well enough, but I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t thicker and spicier. I suppose next time I’ll have to keep that in mind while I am slaving away over the stove for all of the half an hour it took to prepare. (By the by, I am not a domestic person by any stretch of the imagination, so working on a meal for thirty minutes is actually quite a long while in my mind).
Oh! I also finished up a pair of handwarmers this week–I crocheted them. I’ll post a picture of those later too. Other than that I worked awhile on an essay for a class, did some reading, some hanging out watching a movie (bad eighties flick, actually–Lost Boys).
After dinner I went out with some other friends of mine, in particular a friend who was visiting from his internship, which was really fun. We had midnight Chinese take-out, which is always good for the soul. We also went to a concert at the Knight Club in the Campus Center. The band we came in the middle of, I can’t remember the name of, but the band that played after them (and that we stayed for a couple of songs) was named Deer and the Headlights. They weren’t bad. Not my style, particularly, but I enjoyed watching everyone fluttering around and getting jiggy with it.
Well, it is late and I still have some dishes to do, so I think I am going to run. I hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend! I’ll be back soon with another entry.
hello!
Friday, September 25th, 2009Hello everyone! It was a beautiful day here in Alfred NY, and the leaves were beginning to turn slightly red around the edges, an early indicator that we will soon be knee deep in fall leaves. A little bit about myself, I am a junior art and design major with a concentration in ceramics. I am also a tour guide so I may end up seeing some of you! One small interesting Alfred fact, our football field actually used to house the celadon tile company until it burned down, you can still see the office if you take the campus tour from the van. Its been a pretty eventful thursday resplendent with ample kiln unloadings, glazing, clay mixing, and wheel throwing. My wheel throwing class and my color and surface classes have been experimenting with cone three/four glazes and clay bodies that are a deep red, so its been a lot of experimentation and a really great experience overall, in my color class we have one thousand seven hundred test tiles that we made, which has kept me a very busy girl. Anyways, Till next time!
Hand Sanitizer is my friend!
Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009I have been using hand sanitizer like its my job recently. Around campus there are tons of signs saying things like, “Flu season’s approaching!” I really don’t want to get sick cause then I would have to miss class and I really don’t like to miss classes especially since I like most of them this semester. This weekend is parents weekend and I am anxiously awaiting Friday to see my mom and grandma! The week so far has been laid back. I had a test Tuesday night and I did really well which kinda made my week :) Yesterday it rained for most of the morning and I forgot my umbrella….Luckily it was not freezing andI dried relatively fast. On Sunday my upperclassmen friend invited me to her house to see her kittens! It was a nice break from homework but it made me miss my pets at home. Recently there haven’t been tours and it makes me sad. I want to give a tour (and drive the university van around)!!! Our secretary here at Admissions says that prospective students come in spurts. I wish we had tours everyday! My friend’s birthday is Friday and I got her birthday present last week. I’m excited to give it to her!!!! Today I have work later then I’m going to my friends apartment to catch up with her! My history class today gave me more of a reason to love my professor. He’s just so good at teaching and making history memorable! We also have a lot of fun joking around and laughing. Well, until next time, later!
Wednesday!
Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009Hey Guys! Happy Wednesday! So this is going to be a short post because I have a paper to write for environmentalism but I thought id stop by to let you know how everything in my life is going. There’s a lot of stuff going on actually. This week, the Women’s Issues Coalition is putting up the clothesline project on campus. Check out what its about here: www.clotheslineproject.org . So anyway, once that’s up ill be able to relax for a little while. My birthday is on Friday! Im kinda stoked about that too My parents and brother are coming up for family weekend so Ill get to see them which will be nice. Also this weekend there’s a show called project dynamite coming to campus. http://www.projectdynamite.com/ So I’m going to bring my brother to that for sure. Seems pretty cool right? Last week Bo Burnham came to play here. And I mean, he is my future husband, so it was really cool to meet him Alrighty I’m off to write about the G20 conference! Hope you have a fantastic day!

My name is Ashley Fantigrossi; I’m a senior marketing student in the College of Business (http://business.alfred.edu/) with a minor in fine arts.
Student Clubs and Organizations
I am the president of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship (http://people.alfred.edu/~ivcf/IVCF_Intervarsity.html), and Club Historian for the American Marketing Association (http://auama.wordpress.com/). Work
I have a few jobs on campus: blogging, marketing assistant, production assistant, and I offer my room to be shown to transfer students. So those are the ways I bring in some cash while I’m at school. Time to settle in
Monday, September 21st, 2009What’s up perspective students? (Or tour guides.) We are now ending our fourth week of classes, the weather is starting to dip down, and I swear I saw some leaves falling. Scary thought huh? I always like this time because you can see the campus transition from the vacation spot to being home sweet home. I have my frist quarter exams tomorrow (Organic and Molecular back to back) so I have spent a good amount of time in my text book. I think that’s one thing you aren’t going to learn about from the brochures, websites, or tours… there is a serious change in coursework when coming to college. In return, during the changing seasons, Alfred is gorgeous. Last year me and a friend climbed the hill on State’s side of town to get to the highest, clearest area we could, took around 50 pictures, and matted them together to make one solid photograph of Alfred. It’s around 12 feet long with normal resolution but here is a mega down-size of it:

Yes I know there are photoshop programs to do this but I actually like the barriers between the pictures and the way it’s a little choppy. I worked with a program to make it one completely flush picture but didn’t like it as much as this version. I’m sure one of our art students could do better. Anyway, I have to get back to studying oxidative phosphorylation. Have fun, and come visit while it’s still beautiful here! I would love to give you a tour.
Beautiful days make me happy :)
Thursday, September 17th, 2009Hey! We have been having amazing weather lately! Though it did rain this weekend, the weather has be beautiful. My week hasnt been too busy. I tried to give blood today at the University’s blood drive but my iron was too low :( Tuesdays are my most busiest days with classes, work and a club meeting. Last night I had to meet one of my classes in Nevins Theater to watch a movie. It was about the Greeks waiting to set sail for war in Troy. I made pop corn for my suite mates and I got dinner at Little Alf cafe. My friend and I are getting ready for a Clothesline project to go up in two weeks. Tonight the Student Activities Board meeting will be held at a nearby park. Were going to discuss the upcoming Bo Burnham show and have dinner. It should be really fun and I’m super excited! I love hanging out in Alumni hall cause the counselors are fantastic. I just heard one of them singing “Run This Town” (the new Jay- Z/Rhiannan song). I wish that song was preformed at the VMA’s rather than Lady Gaga’s outrageous performance. After work I have to run back to my suite and get ready to go to Kanakadea Park! I’m out for now! See ya!!
And all of this insanity…
Thursday, September 17th, 2009Hello, hello!
I hope everyone is having a fabulous day. I am so far! Of course, it is only 10:18 in the morning, so I could have a complete reversal by the end of the day. I certainly hope I don’t. Yesterday I didn’t feel well, I think I had the beginnings of an ear infection, so that sort of ruined yesterday. Today, I feel much, much better.
So what has been up with me? I have been working on school work, as per usual. I wrote a sonnet this weekend for my Formal Poetry course, and I am still not quite sure I understand iambic pentameter. I am rather awful at poetry and the like, but at least I am trying. I have been slowly moving through Derrida’s “Archive Fever”, which is a really fascinating read, if you like theory (and I do believe, I do!). I’ve also been working on my personal statement for graduate school, which is really rather frightening and exciting all at once. Right now I am not ready to leave Alfred, but I suppose I might be by the end of the year (or more prepared, at the very least).
Well, I am going to run, but for my next entry I’ll bring shiny pictures along with me! I’ll show off the lovely Honors House, where I live.
Tootles, have a wonderful day!
