Introductions, the end of the year, and other fun things…

Hi! This is my first post on the Alfred Real Life blog, and I figure I should probably introduce myself (more so than my biography tells you about me).

So, to begin, my name is Laura. I am from Potsdam, NY (for those of you who don’t know this is up by the Canadian border in the middle of nowhere–even more rural than Alfred). I’m twenty-one years old as of this past February.

At Alfred University I am a junior English major with a minor in Women’s Studies. I participate in the Women’s Issues Coalition (the women’s group/feminist group on campus). I occasionally making Spectrum meetings; I identify as a lesbian. Most of the time I spend hanging around my room, doing work, reading books, and occasionally playing a video game or two.

So, today is a Thursday, which means this is one of my light days this semester. This also means I should probably be doing homework and using the time to my advantage. But! Today is fabulous out in Alfred. This does not happen nearly enough. So? I’d much rather spend my time in the sun. Though, right now I am in the computer lab of Seidlin (the English building), which is sort of counterproductive to my need to photosynthesize.

Sadly, I have a cold right now, so it actually feels better to be in doors than out of doors. Well, it’s not really much of a cold, but more of the sniffles. I hate being even slightly ill…

On to more interesting things… Tomorrow is Day of Silence. For those of you who don’t know, this is a day of remembrance in the LGBT(add whatever other letters you’d like) community. I plan on participating, which is always interesting because I tend to be fairly talkative in my classes.

Well, even if my cold might get worse, I’m going to trek outside and enjoy the sun and the semi-warm weather. Chau!
