Where’s the snow?

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Today was beautiful! Not a cloud in the sky and sunny! I was very happy to give a tour today and it went great! I have been noticing that the weather this year is not up to par with last year.  Usually by now it has begun to snow and we say good bye to the sun.  Though I am not complaining, I find myself asking where is the snow?  I am enjoying not having so much work.  Everything seems to be calming down homework- wise.  After last week when I had a large paper to write, the semester is definatly winding down.  I’m getting anxious to go home now that Im not so busy.  Thanksgiving is only two weeks away!!! Actually I didnt have a ride home until recently. That was stressful.  But now life is pretty good here at Alfred.  :) Bye for now!

Birthdays!

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

This Monday my friends and I celebrated my roommates 20th birthday!  We had such a good time! We went to a restaurant called Marinos in Hornell. The food was wonderful. I arranged for the waitress to bring a piece of cake with a candle out at the end of dinner for my roommate, she loved it!  This weekend my best friend is coming because next Tuesday is MY 19th birthday! So this weekend all my friends and I will be celebrating! I cant wait, specially since i have not seen my best friend since August.

Work has been going well. At the student calling job I got a very large pledge that I am quite proud of! :) Tours have been great and so has the weather! Although I think I am finally prepared for the cold.  It now has my permission to snow. hahaha!

Ive been quite stacked with homework this week.  I have a paper due Friday, yes thats tomorrow…but I will get it done! Speaking of the paper I should go and do that…Later!

Snow?!

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Yes. It snowed today. October 15th…not even winter. We’re supose to get 3-5 inches over the next two days. Wow. I looove alfred and its awesome weather!!!

Aside from the snow, everything seems to be slowing down since midterms have ended.  I have a lot of saturday tours coming up and a paper due next week.  My rommate’s birthday is quickly approaching and then mine follows by a week :) I am very happy to celebrate birthdays and hang out with my friends!  But this weekend is a paper writing weekend for me, although I will try to mix some fun along with homework.

I went home this past weekend and had a blast hanging out with my family and 6mo old puppy.  It was nice being home but I found myself missing Alfred.  However I was very glad I got to go shopping, see a movie and see my friends!  The next time I will be home is November for Thanksgiving!

Bye for now!

Fun days at AU

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Wow, I have been busy lately!  This week is mid-term break and I can hardly wait!  Although not everyone has mid-terms, (I only have one), it seems that everyone is crazy busy around this time of year with projects and of course papers. But this week everyone is truly “working for the weekend!”  I know I am since I have a paper due next week that I do not want to be doing this weekend as I visit my family!  I can’t wait for my mom to make me food!!!

This past weekend was an AUtumnvisit day for prospective students and since I am a tour guide I was giving tours all Saturday long!  I had some really good tours, specially thanks to the beautiful weather.  I met some really nice families and students who seem like they would do very well here!  After touring all afternoon a fellow tour guide, Nick, and I went to the Jet (the diner in town).  We met my roommate there and had a delicious meal.  From there we went to visit our other friend at her appartment.  By then it was time for a nap!  In the next few days I plan on breaking out my winter clothes, since the weather has been getting colder and of course do tons of homework!

The other day I was looking through my previous posts and I realized that I have failed to introduce myself!  My name is Melissa and I am a sophomore from southern New Jersey.  My major is Comparative Cultures and I have two minors- French and Anthropology  :)

Hand Sanitizer is my friend!

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

I have been using hand sanitizer like its my job recently.  Around campus there are tons of signs saying things like, “Flu season’s approaching!”  I really don’t want to get sick cause then I would have to miss class and I really don’t like to miss classes especially since I like most of them this semester.  This weekend is parents weekend and I am anxiously awaiting Friday to see my mom and grandma!  The week so far has been laid back.  I had a test Tuesday night and I did really well which kinda made my week :)  Yesterday it rained for most of the morning and I forgot my umbrella….Luckily it was not freezing  andI dried relatively fast.  On Sunday my upperclassmen friend invited me to her house to see her kittens! It was a nice break from homework but it made me miss my pets at home.  Recently there haven’t been tours and it makes me sad. I want to give a tour (and drive the university van around)!!!  Our secretary here at Admissions says that prospective students come in spurts.  I wish we had tours everyday!  My friend’s birthday is Friday and I got her birthday present last week.  I’m excited to give it to her!!!!  Today I have work later then I’m going to my friends apartment to catch up with her!  My history class today gave me more of a reason to love my professor.  He’s just so good at teaching and making history memorable! We also have a lot of fun joking around and laughing.  Well, until next time, later!

Beautiful days make me happy :)

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Hey! We have been having amazing weather lately! Though it did rain this weekend, the weather has be beautiful. My week hasnt been too busy. I tried to give blood today at the University’s blood drive but my iron was too low :(  Tuesdays are my most busiest days with classes, work and a club meeting.  Last night I had to meet one of my classes in Nevins Theater to watch a movie.  It was about the Greeks waiting to set sail for war in Troy.  I made pop corn for my suite mates and I got dinner at Little Alf cafe.  My friend and I are getting ready for a Clothesline project to go up in two weeks.  Tonight the Student Activities Board meeting will be held at a nearby park. Were going to discuss the upcoming Bo Burnham show and have dinner.  It should be really fun and I’m super excited!  I love hanging out in Alumni hall cause the counselors are fantastic. I just heard one of them singing “Run This Town” (the new Jay- Z/Rhiannan song).  I wish that song was preformed at the VMA’s rather than Lady Gaga’s outrageous performance.  After work I have to run back to my suite and get ready to go to Kanakadea Park! I’m out for now! See ya!!
